Russia hotels — where to stay

The territory of Russia is so great that even the natives know some of the wonders of their vast country only by hearsay or illustrations. Foreigners have almost an impossible task: how to choose the most interesting Russian city or land if they are so many. There are a few standard routes in the country. One of the most popular is called ‘The Golden Ring’. It includes examination of a number of ancient cities – Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Suzdal, etc., a visit to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, the Ipatiev Monastery, the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir, Holy Trinity Danilov Monastery. Traveling of another kind is a journey by trains going by the Trans-Siberian Railway. Within a few days you can cross the whole country: from the European part of Russia you will go through the Urals and Siberia to Vladivostok, visit such major cities as Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk. read more

Comfortable compartments of modern trains will served as a hotel all the way.

What to do and what to see
The capital of Russia, Moscow, is the main economic and political center of the country. Of course, a single day is not enough to see all the attractions of Moscow but if you reserve a hotel within the beltline (Weekend Inn Apartments, Boutique Skver Hotel, Ibis Moscow Paveletskaya), it will be easier to get to many places of interest. Some metro stations are interesting on their own. You can start with Red Square, then walk through the streets of Old Arbat, Tverskaya Street, and alleys of the Boulevard Ring, visit the Sparrow Hills, All-Russian Exhibition Center, take a memorable picture on the background of the Moscow Kremlin from the Greater Stone Bridge.

St. Petersburg is just wonderful! Of course, the beauty cannot be compared but tourists think this city is more attractive than the capital. The Palace Square, Peterhof, majestic cathedrals – St. Isaac's and Kazan, the masterpieces of the Hermitage Museum, Mariinsky Theatre, houses of the Fontanka Embankment, Neva drawbridges and white summer nights – there are lots of wonders in the city. In St. Petersburg there is a large selection of hostels: Sova Hostel, Hostel Red Clothespin, House Mouse Hostel.

However, the most striking and magical light of white nights can be observed closer to the North – in Novaya Zemlya, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk. The forests of Karelia annually welcome lovers of free holiday with tents, kayaks, fishing poles. One of the islands of Lake Onega is famous by its Kizhi Pogost complex (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with a unique Church of the Transfiguration. Nearby options for an overnight stay are the following: Hotel Complex Ostrov, Kizhi Grace Guest House.

August and September are the best months to travel to Siberia, Primorsky Krai, Kamchatka, Sakhalin. When you see the nature of these places – the Altai Mountains, Lake Baikal, Yenisei River, and the Valley of Geysers – you understand what the breadth of the Russian soul, the power of raging characters, the depth of Russian philosophical thought mean.

Where to stay
Russian tourism industry improves year after year: new hotels are built, the quality of service increases, prices correspond the level of the leading hotels of the world.

An example of active modernization is renewed infrastructure of Krasnodar Krai. During preparations for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and its surroundings lots of sports facilities, modern hotels and tourist centers were built. In summer holidaymakers choose small hotels and guesthouses on the coast of the Black Sea from Adler to Anapa: Guest House Ivolga, Olimp Hotel, Hotel Rezidenzia Utrish, U Morya na Raduzhnoy Guest House, Green Hotel, Hostel Sochi, Gavan-Adler Hotel.

Today, all over Russia, even in remote areas, rural tourism is actively developing:
• in Esso village there is a pool with geothermal water almost in every hotel, however you can spend a night in a real yurt of Chow-Chive cattle camp inhabited by the Koryaks, the indigenous people of Kamchatka;
• in Buryatia on the basis of healing Shumak springs there are camp sites where tourists are taken on helicopters.
