Peru hotels — where to stay
Holiday spent on a fashionable resort is not a surprise: but what a difference is swimming in the Lake Titicaca with a view of the Peruvian Andes. Do you want to add adventure to your life? Welcome to one of the most fascinating countries in South America – Peru. You can create a route that will be both an exciting journey and the trial of your strength. In the canyon Colca, at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, you will learn what a real trekking is. You will see Nazca geoglyphs from a bird's-eye view. Overcoming fatigue and fear, you will climb to the top of Huayna Picchu. If you still dream about a beach holiday then the best spot in Peru for this purpose is the city of Máncora. Hotels with swimming pools (KiChic, Puerto Palos Hostal) and cheap bungalows (Eco Lodge, Naif Rustic & Ecologic Lodge) are located right on the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean. Peru welcomes active travelers who are willing to enjoy every day.
What to do and what to see
If you are short of time you should not stay in Lima for more than a day.
The sightseeing of the historical center, evening show of fountains in the park Reserva – and you can go further. Do not be afraid of night bus journeys: comfortable seats allow good night's sleep. Cruz del Sur transport operator has good vehicles and offers diversity routes including outside the country.
On the Ballestas Islands there is a variety of marine life representatives. Tourist boats swim quite close but photo cameras do not bother birds and animals; on the contrary, they are happy to pose. Such tours can be arranged in the town of Paracas, where there are lots of options for a cheap overnight stay (Paracas Backpackers' House, Backpacker House The Pacific).
Travelers often save Machu Picchu for last. First, it is really the brightest attraction of the country, loud final chord of the whole trip. Secondly, it takes time to acclimatize. Many Hotels in Cuzco (Hostal Inti Wasi Plaza de Armas, Tierra Viva Cusco Plaza) put oxygen cylinders right in their lobbies. Coca leaves that tourists chew with pleasure also help to ease the elevation changes. We do not advise to take out the plant from the country as a souvenir – the customs office does not approve it. You’d better buy warm clothes made from alpaca wool – the most common animal in Peru.
Where to stay
In Peru, there are a lot of hostels and low-cost hotels so you can significantly save on accommodation. Just ask about the availability of hot water and be prepared for cold nights.
On the way from the capital of the country to the capital of gastronomy – Arequipa – you can spend the night in the city of Ika with a good selection of quality available hotels (Gran Hotel Ica). Here you will be also offered tours to the oasis Huacachina, near which there are hotels as well (Hosteria Suiza).
If you rent a car for a journey alomg the valley of the Urubamba River, or as it is called – the Sacred Valley, you will be able to visit the market in Pisac and see the ancient terraces Maras and Moray within a single day. Leaving from Cuzco to Machu Picchu you will need to stay for a night in a hotel in Ollantaytambo (Wayras Hostal) or the town of Aguas Calientes (Wachuma B & B). There are luxury options in the immediate vicinity of the ‘lost city of the Incas’: Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.
